Lessons from a Frustrated Toddler
•Posted on September 24 2024

The other day I told my two-year-old spicy toddler that she couldn't go on the school bus with her older siblings.
She was so ready to go. She had her new tennis shoes on with only one sock. She had a shirt on with no pants and a pull-up (because we still are not potty trained), and her Cocoamelon backpack on her shoulders filled with all her special toys.
In her mind, she was ready to go!
The bus came, her older siblings ran down the driveway to hop on it, and I held her back at the house, telling her it was not her time to go.
She turned and looked at me, crossed her arms, stuck out her bottom lip, and told me "Mommy, I am so frustrated"
Without a doubt, it was the cutest thing ever and at first, made me want to laugh at this smart and strong-willed little girl.
But then God revealed a big life lesson to me in that moment.
You see, in her eyes, she was fully equipped and ready to the fullest to hop on that bus and go to school that day. But in my eyes, she was nowhere near ready or prepared for everything school would bring her.
How often does God feel that with us?
We think we are prepared, educated, equipped, and beyond ready to hop into that next exciting season, that new big thing, that wonderful plan we have for ourselves.
But He is holding us back saying "Not yet child". You need more time. You need more growth. You need more strength. You need more preparation. You need to trust that I will make it happen when you are ready and after I fully equip you to go.
I am in a season where I look up at him and say "God I am so frustrated"
And then He gives me lessons like this to remember that His time is truly going to be better than I could ever imagine.
So here is to waiting, to have more patience, and to lean into what He still needs me to prepare for.
"The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him" - Lamentations 3:25
