Mom Guilt- the battle is real.
•Posted on October 30 2024

Last night while tucking in my 7-year-old son Lennon, I noticed his tired eyes had tears in them.
I asked him what was wrong and he sadly told me how Halloween is only two days away and we never made it to the pumpkin patch this year to pick out pumpkins to carve, and now it is to late.
My heart sank and instantly filled with deep guilt.... For many years, its been a family tradition to pick a Sunday, and after church, head to our local pumpkin patch where each kid picks out their pumpkins and we take pictures and then head home to carve them. And this year due to working many hours, having busy schedules, and never all being around together on a Sunday, it didn't happen.
I left his bedroom feeling very guilty, realizing how important this really was to him.
In a world of hopping on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, or Snap Chat and seeing all the perfect Fall pictures out there, carved pumpkin contests where we can vote for a winner, and perfectly happy "gram worthy" pictures, it is so easy to get caught up in all the worldly "things we are not doing" as a mom.
I had to take a step back and stop myself.
You see it is SO easy to focus on the things we are NOT doing right or perfectly vs the things we are doing right. The posture of my heart needed a major shift last night.
I had 4 children, with full tummies and clean water to drink, tucked in beds with nice blankets, in rooms where a safe roof was over their head, by two parents who love them all like crazy, with a knowledge of a God who made them perfectly.
And you know what? That is more than enough, and are all privileges that are deprived to so many children all over this world.
Yes we will go to the pumpkin patch. After Halloween and all will be great again. But please do not mistake how the guilt will tell you what you are doing wrong, for all the things you are doing right.
Guilt is a real thing and a battle us women deal with daily. May this be your reminder to re-posture your own heart today and focus on all the good vs all the guilt.
It matters.
I am rooting for you and you are doing a good job! - Megan
