My Calendar Tells Me Summer is Here!
•Posted on May 29 2024

Any one else looking ahead at your June calendar with big eyes, or is it just me??
We have this huge whiteboard calendar in our laundry room which is also the first room all of our family members enter and exit our house. So you can't miss it and its the best $25 I have spent.
Every new month I add what is coming ahead for everyone's individual schedules all perfectly color coded for each of us (since its 6 of us, it really is beautifully colored in the end)
However for the month of June, I think my eyes about popped out of my head when I got it all written down and then realized the Taxi drive to most all these things is ME.... Yikes.
We said YES to so many things. And it so easy to do in the moment as you are signing different slips and writing out checks for different things for the last two months not really thinking ahead how this would all look. And now here we are with all our Yeses all in the first month of summer and I am already regretting several of them.
As a people pleaser (in rehab), I remember saying YES to everything for most of my life. My yeses came out of guilt, came out of not wanting to be harshly judged, and came out of wanting everyone to like me always.
I have worked so hard on this in the last several years and even though I have taken great strides with it, I still tend to slip back into the "YES for everything space" - especially when mom guilt sets in and I have several little voices begging me to let them do it.
So if you said Yes to a lot in this next month, you are not alone. If you feel frustrated or have anxiety about it, you are not alone either. I am with you.
I know I will enjoy it all once we get to each event and activity hopefully on time. I know I will also embrace moments and memories with my kids and we will get through it just fine.
But I also know this is a learning experience for me that I will try not to do again. To say my best yes to certain things and no to the rest (guilt free). Its probably why I did a podcast episode about it as well.
So here is to a great busy summer of both enjoyment and learning!
