The power of a sloppy signature
•Posted on March 05 2025

Back in November, after church was over, I walked out and wrote my name down on this piece of paper that was located in the common area.
There were no other names on that paper. I had no other details about what I was signing up for. I confidently wrote "Megan May" in my really crappy handwriting and walked out the door and headed home for the day.
That signature ended up solidifying a yes to going on my first overseas trip. It was a signature saying yes to several months of preparation, meetings, and prayers. It was a signature signing up for 30+ hours of being on an airplane, heading across the world, and opening my heart to whatever God has for it in the 10 days of being across the world.
The signature came with much conversation, support, hugs, community showing up, donations, and grateful tears.
The signature came with negative feedback, doubt, hurtful words, fear, and misunderstanding.
The signature came with tears of saying goodbye to my kids, and husband leaving a letter for each one of them under their pillows as I go ahead and leave them trusting in the plan of a really big God.
The signature came with asking God to break my heart for what breaks His in a world and culture so very different from mine.
And as I am pre-writing out this email to you prior to hopping on a plane, I am hit with how powerful a signature can be and the good and hard that is coming with it.
You see, friend, I am no one special. I have not met any certain standards of perfection, biblical knowledge, preparation, or standards. And truly, if I had to interview for this mission trip, I would have never gotten hired to go.
I am an imperfect girl who wrote my name on sheet of paper, trusting whatever was to come from it. I have went through every emotion since.
Please don't let the fact that you want to stay comfortable in life stop you from doing amazing things in this world. You don't need any special qualifications to make a positive dent. You simply have to say yes.
It might not be a trip across the world but there are people in your own back yard, your community, or your home that need you to say YES.
I challenge you this week to get a bit uncomfortable, open your heart and take one step forward in whatever direction it is leading you. Don't stress over the details, it will all work out because the impact is bigger than your fear.
Please also pray for our amazing team of 8. For our families that we leave back at home and most importantly for the people that we get to meet and love on.
Until next time.
Love + Friendship- Megan May
